About Mathadi Board

In order to regulate and provide welfare benefits to unorganised workers engaged in manual work such as loading and unloading of goods, stacking, transportation, weighing and measuring, sorting, segregation, cleaning, and similar activities in Maharashtra, the Government has enacted the Maharashtra Mathadi, Hamal and Other Manual Workers (Regulation of Employment and Welfare) Act, 1969.

Under Section 6 of this Act, 36 Mathadi Boards have been established across the state. These Boards have been constituted to operate in one or more districts, depending on the notified area of operation.

In Mumbai, based on the classification of goods, 11 Mathadi Boards are currently functioning. Out of these, 10 Boards have jurisdiction over Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts. The remaining 1 Board relates to workers in the Maharashtra fishing industry, including fishermen and other manual workers, and its jurisdiction extends across the entire state of Maharashtra.

In the remaining 31 districts, a total of 25 Mathadi Boards are functioning.

Each Mathadi Board operates under its own independent schemes.
