Development Commissioner of the Unorganized Labour
The Development Commissioner for Unorganized Labour in the Government of Maharashtra plays a crucial role in safeguarding the interests of workers in the informal sector. Operating under the Labour Department, this office is responsible for implementing welfare schemes, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and coordinating efforts across departments to provide social security, skill development, and employment opportunities. These initiatives aim to improve the working conditions and livelihood of unorganized workers across Maharashtra. The Development Commissioner’s efforts are vital in bridging the gap between policy and grassroots implementation, ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach those who need them most.
Under Section 3 of the Maharashtra Domestic Workers Act, 2008, the State-level Domestic Workers Welfare Board was established on 12 August 2011. As per the notification dated 27 March 2015, the Honorable Development Commissioner (Unorganized Workers), Maharashtra State, Mumbai, has been appointed as a member of the Board.
